1. What is the proper chain of command for public complaints and inquiries?
Constructive criticism of the school is welcomed by the Oxford Township Board of Education whenever it is motivated by a sincere desire to improve the quality of the educational program or to equip the school to do its task more effectively. The board has, however, confidence in its professional staff, and desires to support their actions in order that they be free from unnecessary, spiteful or negative criticism and complaint. Therefore, whenever a complaint is made directly to the board as a whole, or to a board member as an individual, it shall be referred to the chief school administrator for study and possible solution. The board will consider hearing citizens’ complaints when they cannot be resolved by the teacher and/or the chief school administrator. The board will not consider or act on complaints that have not been explored at the appropriate teacher-administrative level in accordance with established board policies and administrative regulations.
2. Who should you talk to?
If a parent has a concern about what is going on in the classroom, they should speak with the teacher first. If after speaking with the teacher, there is still a concern, the parent should talk to the Chief School Administrator. After meeting with the Chief School Administrator and the problem is still not resolved, the parent may request a meeting with the Board or one of its committees. If any of these steps are bypassed, the parent will most likely be asked to go through the steps that were bypassed. The parent should start at the lowest level in the chain and move up. When going through the process, the parent should document the problem/concern clearly and concisely in a letter to the most appropriate level in the chain, and cc the next level above that.
3. How do I get an item on the BOE agenda?
If there is anything that anyone thinks should be on the Agenda, the board president must have the information by the Wednesday one week prior to the regularly scheduled meeting.
4. How can I register to vote in Oxford?
You can print out a Voter Registration Application available at the County Offices in Belvidere or on their website; fill it out and mail it in. The registration deadline is 29 days before an election.
5. How do I vote by absentee ballot?
In New Jersey, any voter can now vote by Absentee Ballot for any election.
You do not need a reason for an Absentee Ballot.
A voter may apply for an absentee ballot by completing an Absentee Ballot Application and mailing the application to their County Clerk by mail up to 7 days prior to the election. A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3:00 p.m., the day before the election. The County Clerk cannot accept faxed copies of an Absentee Ballot Application since an original signature is required.
